Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Gamma Sigma Chapter, Albany, Georgia has a history of implementing programs at Albany State University since 1949. All Targets of “Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service (2018-2022) have been implemented at Albany State University. Recently, the chapter participated in its biennial Fashionetta, with our graduate chapter Delta Eta Omega Chapter, Inc., which is a cultural event that assists in raising money for scholarships, provide charitable contributions, and meet the needs of the Albany/Dougherty County community.
The Gamma Sigma Chapter supports HBCU For Life: A Call to Action by hosting virtual workshops to remind high school students to complete their FAFSA before the priority deadline as well as highlighting and featuring HBCUs on the Gamma Sigma Chapter Social Media outlets. The chapter also hosted an HBCU Impact Panel Discussion.
In support of Heart Health Awareness, the Gamma Sigma Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc. conducted an informational to teach the Albany State University community to raise awareness of heart disease and promote life changes that will increase the longevity and quality of the lives of women around the globe, along with a special Zumba course (physical and virtual).
The Gamma Sigma Chapter engaged in supporting student entrepreneurs and encouraging the support of black-owned business in the Albany/Dougherty County community.
The Gamma Sigma Chapter supports the Arts by working to expose students of the Albany State University community to arts enrichment and culture. We’ve provided opportunities to share with students and our experience in visual and performing arts and learn about writers, entertainers, and various other artists in the Albany State University community.
The Gamma Sigma chapter continues to strive and carry out our legacy through service to all mankind, loving sisterhood, and academic excellence. The chapter has provided books to the children of Ghana. Providing books to the underserved youths in communities across Ghana.
